Gene therapy could be addressed as the most useful technology of the decade though it is in its infant stage. The scientists are showing a fast progress which is creating a lot interest for the future. With a full fledged gene therapy at our disposal treatment of any disease is no longer a problem. The time span required for curing the disease is also less.
Gene therapy is a complicated subject but putting it in simpler common man terms, the gene therapy aims at replacing the diseased gene (the protein carried on the chromosome responsible for the characters and some hereditary diseases) by a fully healthy gene. This process is called gene therapy.
To introduce the new gene a virus, used as the carrier, is targeted to the affected organs like kidneys, lungs, liver etc… This virus unloads the new gene so as to replace the diseased one enabling quick convalescence of the patients.
